InVideo Alternatives: 6 Tools Worth Switching To in 2026
On this page

FrameSurfer publishes this guide and is one of the tools covered.

The best InVideo alternative depends on why you are leaving. If you want finished short videos with generated scenes, voiceover, captions and music, try FrameSurfer. If you turn blog posts or long videos into stock-footage videos, try Pictory. For a talking presenter, try HeyGen. For hands-on editing and subtitles, try VEED, Kapwing or Canva.

Every third-party price below comes from that company's official pricing page, checked on September 24, 2026.

Why people switch from InVideo

InVideo AI is a capable product. It has a timeline editor, multiplayer editing and access to many AI video models. Its video GPT page describes a library of 16 million+ stock photos and videos (InVideo). But recent reviews keep returning to one theme: credits.

How InVideo's plans work

Four rules on that pricing page matter most:

  • Unused credits do not roll over. Your allowance resets at the start of each billing cycle.
  • Every generation is charged. Video creation, generative models and other features each use credits at their own rates. InVideo says its models are billed at the model makers' original API prices.
  • Credit costs can change. InVideo reserves the right to update credit costs at any time, without prior notice.
  • No free plan or trial is listed. The page shows three paid plans. Its FAQ says a cancelled account drops to a Free plan at the end of the billing cycle, and unused paid credits expire.

What recent reviews complain about

InVideo has two Trustpilot profiles. As of September 24, 2026, the invideo.io profile shows a 1.9 TrustScore from 1,016 reviews. The ai.invideo.io profile shows 3.0 from 891 reviews.

Across 2026 reviews on the two profiles, these complaints repeat:

  • One short video uses a month of credits. Several reviewers say a single video under a minute emptied their monthly allowance.
  • You pay again to fix mistakes. Reviewers describe spending credits on botched scenes, then more credits to correct them.
  • No way to test first. Some say they could not try the product before paying.
  • Refunds declined. Several reviewers report refund requests turned down after credits were used.
  • Output that ignores the brief. Examples include wrong background images, an animal with extra legs and lip sync drifting off.

To be fair, reviews are self-selected. Trustpilot says it does not fact-check reviews. The invideo.io profile also notes that InVideo has not invited customers to review recently, so reviews may not be representative. And some recent reviews praise InVideo's support team for restoring credits and helping with prompts.

What to look for in an InVideo replacement

Question to askWhy it matters
Does it make a finished video, or just clips?A clip generator leaves you to add voiceover, captions and music yourself.
Is the footage generated, stock, or yours?Stock is fast but not shot for your script. Generated scenes can show exactly what the script says.
Can you review the script and scene plan before generation runs?Fixing a plan costs less than regenerating finished scenes.
Can you redo one scene?Rebuilding the whole video to fix one shot wastes credits.
Can it start from your photo, product page or script?Your real product and your own words beat a generic prompt.
Can it keep a character or product consistent?Series and brand videos fall apart when the face or the bottle changes.
What does the trial include, and do credits roll over? This decides what you can test before you pay, and what you lose at renewal.
What are the export limits?Check resolution, 9:16 support, video length and watermarks.

The 6 best InVideo alternatives

1. FrameSurfer: best for finished short videos with generated scenes

FrameSurfer is an AI video maker for TikTok, Reels, Shorts and ads. You describe an idea, and it writes the script, generates every shot, and cuts together a finished video with voiceover, captions and music. You can also start from a web link, a photo or your own script.

It is the closest match to InVideo AI's promise: one idea in, a post-ready video out. The difference is that each scene is generated from your script rather than filled with stock clips.

What it does well

  • A finished video, not a pile of clips. You get the script, the scenes, a voiceover with word-level timing, synced captions and music. Export is MP4 up to 1080p, in vertical 9:16, square 1:1 or widescreen 16:9.
  • Check the plan first. Your idea becomes a narrated script split into scenes. You can edit that plan before anything is generated.
  • Redo one scene. If one shot is off, regenerate that scene instead of the whole video.
  • Start from what you have. Paste a product page, listing or article into URL to video. The page's text and facts become the brief, and its photos come along as references. Or animate a single photo with image to video, or bring your own script.
  • Consistent characters and products. Upload a product, a character and a background as references, and they stay consistent across scenes. Every plan lets you save characters to reuse in later videos. Our guide to keeping characters consistent across AI video scenes shows how.
  • More than a dozen video models on one plan. Kling, Google's Veo 3.1, ByteDance's Seedance, Alibaba's Wan 3, MiniMax, Grok Imagine and Pruna models are all included. Pick a model for each scene, or let FrameSurfer choose. Compare them on the AI video models page.
  • Cost known upfront. Credits are deducted when a generation starts, so you know the cost before it runs.
  • Edit by typing. In the chat editor, type a change like "move the text to the bottom" and the AI applies it. A visual editor handles precise timing and layout.
  • Commercial use. Under FrameSurfer's terms, you own what you create and can use it personally or commercially.

Where it falls short

  • Built for short-form. It is made for TikTok, Reels, Shorts and ads. For long YouTube explainers or webinar recaps, a stock-footage tool like Pictory fits better.
  • No free plan. Generating needs a plan. First-time subscribers get a 7-day free trial, and a card is required.
  • Credits still apply. Usage depends on the model, length and quality, and monthly credits reset at renewal.
  • Tops out at 1080p. If you need 4K exports, look at HeyGen Pro or Kapwing Pro.
  • Presenters work differently. A talking character comes from a character you saved or one photo you upload. If you want to pick from hundreds of ready-made presenters, HeyGen is built for that.

Price: FrameSurfer has three plans. Each includes every image and video model, reusable characters, voiceover, music and captions. First-time subscribers start with a 7-day free trial.

If you want to see how your last InVideo idea comes out with generated scenes, describe it on FrameSurfer and review the script before anything renders.

2. Pictory: best for turning existing content into stock-footage videos

Pictory turns ideas, scripts, web pages, documents, PDFs, slide decks and audio into videos. Footage comes from Getty Images and Storyblocks, and voices come from ElevenLabs.

Pros

  • Many ways in: idea, URL, image, script, doc, PDF, PPT and audio to video.
  • Large licensed stock library: 5 million videos on Starter and 18 million on Professional (annual plans).
  • Auto captions, text-based editing and highlight clips from long videos.
  • A 14-day free trial, and 1080p exports.

Cons

  • The look is stock-first. The footage was not shot for your script.
  • AI-generated video is capped by AI credits. On the annual Starter plan, 1,200 AI credits a year cover up to 12.5 minutes of AI video. On monthly Starter, 100 AI credits a month cover up to 1 minute.

Price: Starter is $25 a month billed annually (shown as a discount from $29), or $29 month to month. Professional is $35 a month billed annually, or $59 month to month. Source: Pictory pricing, as of September 24, 2026.

3. HeyGen: best for avatar presenter videos

HeyGen is built around AI avatars that speak your script on camera. It suits training, sales and explainer videos where a presenter is the point.

Pros

  • A real free plan: 3 videos a month, up to 1 minute each, with 500+ stock video avatars.
  • Creator plan videos run up to 30 minutes, export at 1080p and include voice cloning.
  • 175+ languages and dialects on Creator, and credit rollovers.

Cons

  • Less useful when nobody needs to be on camera. A scene-based tool fits that job better.
  • 4K export needs the Pro plan, $49 a month as of September 2026.

Price: Creator is $29 a month, or $24 a month billed yearly ($288). Source: HeyGen pricing, as of September 24, 2026.

4. VEED: best for editing and subtitles in the browser

VEED is a browser video editor with AI generation added. It is a good fit if you already have footage and mostly need cuts, subtitles and translations.

Pros

  • Free to start in the browser.
  • The Creator plan includes no watermark, unlimited auto subtitles and the full audio and video catalog.
  • Translation into 50+ languages on Pro.

Cons

  • No free trial for paid plans. VEED offers trials only to Enterprise customers with at least 3 users.
  • Paid plans are priced per user, so the cost rises with each teammate.

Price: Creator is $10 per user per month, billed yearly as $116. Pro is $21 per user per month, billed yearly as $257. Source: VEED pricing, as of September 24, 2026.

5. Kapwing: best for teams editing and repurposing

Kapwing is a collaborative editor for teams that cut, subtitle and repurpose video.

Pros

  • A free plan with unlimited exports.
  • Pro removes the watermark, exports in 4K and handles projects up to 2 hours.
  • Pro includes auto-subtitling up to 1,000 minutes a month and dubbing up to 50 minutes a month.

Cons

  • Free exports carry a watermark, stop at 720p and max out at 4 minutes.
  • Custom voice clones and lip sync need the Business plan: $50 per member per month billed annually, or $64 monthly, as of September 2026.

Price: Pro is $16 per member per month billed annually, or $24 billed monthly. Source: Kapwing pricing, as of September 24, 2026.

6. Canva: best if you already design in Canva

Canva's free video editor sits next to your social posts and brand assets, which makes it handy for quick template edits.

Pros

  • A free plan, and free trials of Pro and Business.
  • Video templates, one-click captions and voiceover recording.
  • Stock footage, including collections like Artlist Video, plus a built-in AI video generator.

Cons

  • Its AI editing starts from clips you drop in, and Canva pitches its AI clips as a way to fill footage gaps. Compare it with a tool that generates every scene.
  • The free plan's stock library is much smaller: 4.7+ million items versus 141+ million on Pro.

Price: The free plan costs nothing. On September 24, 2026, Canva's pricing page showed Pro and Business prices in local currency, so see Canva pricing for your country. Feature details come from Canva's video editor page, as of September 24, 2026.

How to switch without losing work

  1. Finish and download before your plan ends. InVideo says unused paid credits expire once a cancelled plan runs out, so use them on the videos you still need.
  2. Keep your scripts in a plain document. A good script moves to any tool.
  3. Test your hardest video first. Use a trial on the video InVideo struggled with, such as a recurring character or a product shot. Judge the voiceover, captions and music together, not one clip.

If faceless content is your main use, our guide to running a faceless YouTube channel covers formats and posting.

Ready to try the switch? Start a FrameSurfer video from an idea, a link or a photo and edit the script before any scene is generated.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best free alternative to InVideo?

Kapwing and Canva have free plans for editing, and HeyGen's free plan makes 3 avatar videos a month, up to 1 minute each. For finished AI-generated videos, FrameSurfer offers a 7-day free trial to first-time subscribers.

Why do InVideo credits run out so fast?

InVideo charges credits for every generation, at rates that differ by model and feature. Unused credits do not roll over, and InVideo says it may change credit costs without notice. Regenerating scenes to fix mistakes uses more credits.

Does InVideo have a free trial?

As of September 24, 2026, InVideo's pricing page lists three paid plans and no free trial. Its FAQ says a cancelled account moves to a Free plan at the end of the billing cycle.

Is there an InVideo alternative that does not rely on stock footage?

Yes. FrameSurfer generates each scene with AI video models from your script. It can also use your own photos or the photos on a product page.

What is the best InVideo alternative for faceless YouTube Shorts?

FrameSurfer, because it makes finished vertical videos with narration, captions and music from one idea, and keeps characters consistent across scenes. Pictory also works if you are happy with stock footage.
