FrameSurfer publishes this guide and is one of the tools covered.
FrameSurfer, InVideo AI, CapCut and Flixier all pair AI video generation with a timeline editor. In FrameSurfer, the Agent builds the whole video, then you open it in the editor to trim scenes, clips and music, swap transitions, edit text and captions, mute a track, replace one scene's clip with a new generation, an upload or stock footage, and roll back to an earlier version. Clip generators such as Krea mostly give you single clips that you finish in another editor.

Why a timeline editor matters for AI video
AI gets most scenes right and a few wrong: a hand with six fingers, sign text that reads as nonsense, a shot that runs two seconds too long. Without an editor you regenerate the whole video and pay again. With one, you fix the one scene and keep the rest.
What you can fix in FrameSurfer's editor
| Problem | Fix in the editor |
|---|---|
| A scene runs too long or too short | Drag its trim handles on the timeline |
| One shot looks wrong | Open the scene and use Generate, Upload, Media or Stock to replace its clip |
| The music fights the voiceover | Trim or move the music, or mute its track |
| A cut feels abrupt | Add one of 29 transitions, such as fade, slide, zoom, whip pan or glitch |
| A caption has a typo or the wrong style | Edit the text, or pick another of 11 caption styles |
| You made it worse | Undo, or restore an earlier version from version history |
Some fixes don't even need the editor. In the Agent chat you can change a scene's text, length, transition or camera motion, or delete a scene, at no credit cost.
AI video generators with a timeline, compared
| Tool | How the AI part works | Timeline editing |
|---|---|---|
| FrameSurfer | The Agent writes the script and generates every scene, voiceover, captions and music | Trim, transitions, text, captions, track mute, replace a scene's clip, version history |
| InVideo AI | Builds videos from prompts using generated and stock footage | Timeline editor with multiplayer editing (InVideo) |
| CapCut | AI tools such as script-to-video inside a full editing app | Full multi-track editor |
| Flixier | Generates clips inside the timeline and lets you compare models (Flixier) | Browser timeline editor |
| Krea and other clip generators | Generate one clip per prompt | Little or no timeline: most people finish the clips in another editor |
How to fix a scene in FrameSurfer
- Open your finished video and click Open in editor.
- Click the scene on the timeline.
- Trim it, or open its panel to replace the clip with a new generation, your own upload or stock footage.
- Play it back, then export the MP4.
New generations in the editor use credits. Trimming, transitions, text, captions and muting don't.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I edit an AI-generated video after it is made?
Yes, in tools that include an editor. FrameSurfer, InVideo AI, CapCut and Flixier let you change scenes on a timeline. Clip generators give you a file you must edit elsewhere.
Do I have to regenerate the whole video to fix one scene?
Not in FrameSurfer. Replace that scene's clip in the editor and the rest of the video stays as it is.
Can I add my own footage to an AI video?
Yes. In FrameSurfer, upload your clip or picture into any scene from the scene panel.
Does editing cost credits?
Trimming, transitions, text, captions and muting cost nothing. Generating a new clip for a scene uses credits, and AI clips need a paid plan.
