# Which AI Video Generator Keeps Characters Consistent Across Scenes?

> AI videos often change a character's face between scenes. How FrameSurfer, Seedance and others keep the same face, clothes and product in every shot.

FrameSurfer publishes this guide and is one of the tools covered.

FrameSurfer keeps characters consistent by making one front-facing portrait of each recurring character before any scene is drawn, then drawing every scene from those portraits. Your own photo or a saved character replaces the portrait, and a product that appears in two or more scenes gets one product picture that every scene copies. Among single-model tools, Seedance takes reference pictures of a character or product, and Kling 3.0 and 4.0 let you set the first and last frame.

Character drift is still the most common flaw in AI video. Facts checked October 22, 2026.

## Why AI characters change between scenes

A video model draws each clip from scratch. Ask for "a woman with red curly hair" in three separate prompts and you get three different women. The fix in every tool is the same idea: give the model a picture of the character, not only words, and reuse that picture in every scene.

## How FrameSurfer keeps a character the same

1. **A portrait first.** For stories, every cast member gets a front-facing portrait before the scenes are made. In other videos, any character who appears in two or more scenes gets one.
2. **Each scene is drawn from its cast.** A scene with Mia and her dog is drawn from Mia's portrait and the dog's portrait, so faces and clothes carry over.
3. **Your pictures win.** Upload a photo or pick a saved character and it is used instead of a made portrait. Plans include 5 to 30 saved characters.
4. **Products too.** A bottle, a car or a house that recurs gets one object picture. Upload your own product photo, pick one from your Library, or let FrameSurfer make one for 1 credit and approve it.
5. **Clips start from those pictures.** In AI video mode, each clip starts from the scene's picture, so the character is right in the first frame.

## Tools that help with character consistency

| Tool | How it keeps a character | Works across a whole video |
|---|---|---|
| FrameSurfer | One portrait per character and one picture per product, reused in every scene | Yes: the Agent plans every scene from them |
| Seedance 2.5 and 2.0 Fast | Reference pictures of a character or product, per clip | Per clip: you repeat the references yourself |
| Kling 3.0 and 4.0, Veo 3.1 Fast | A start and end frame you choose | Per clip |
| Dreamina (CapCut) | Reference photos with Seedance-based generation ([Dreamina](https://dreamina.capcut.com/ai-video/how-to-keep-character-consistent-in-video)) | Per clip |

## Tips that work in any tool

- **Lock one reference image** before you make any video. Front-facing, even light, plain background.
- **Write a fixed description** and paste it into every prompt: "Mia, 30, red curly shoulder-length hair, green raincoat, freckles".
- **Change one thing per scene:** the action or the place, not the outfit and the hairstyle too.
- **Keep clips short.** Drift grows over long clips. Five to eight seconds is safer than twenty.
- **Check every scene before you publish.** Regenerate the one that drifted instead of the whole video.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Can AI keep the same character across a whole video?

Yes, if the tool reuses a reference picture for every scene. FrameSurfer does this automatically from one portrait per character. With a single-clip model, you must attach the same reference to each clip yourself.

### Can I use my own face as the character?

Yes. Upload a photo of yourself or someone who has given you permission. FrameSurfer does not generate real people without their permission.

### Does it work for products, not just people?

Yes. A product that appears in two or more scenes gets one product picture, so the bottle, label or car looks the same in each shot.

### What if one scene still looks different?

Open the video in the editor and regenerate that one scene. The rest of the video stays as it is.
